Check Engine Light

Resonator

Many Early Sprinters (2004 to 2007) suffer from blown intake and turbo air tubes and broken resonators. Typical symptoms of a blown tube or broken resonator are a loud hissing noise and lack of engine performance when accelerating, often accompanied by the orange check engine light on. Precision Auto has solved some of these problems by sourcing the Riordan aluminum resonator that will not crack and break, like the factory one does. This update gives you the added reliability you need from your Sprinter!

The later V6 or OM642 engine have a different, but also problem prone design, and while no upgrades piece is commonly available, we do keep them in stock for fast turn around times.

Glow plug

A Glow Plug warning light illuminated on the dash of any generation of Sprinter Van is quite common, although the repair requirements can be quite different.

The 5 cylinder engine frequently takes out the glow plug module when a glow plug fails, and replacing the module, before you replace the glow plug will only result in another failed module.

The V6 powered Sprinters on the other hand, seldom have failed modules, but frequently are found to have the Glow Plug stuck, or broken off in the cylinder head.

EGR Valve

The EGR valve on the 5 cylinder Sprinters have proven to be a frequent problem and many require replacement around the 100,000 KM mark.

Many V6 models seem to experience failures at very low millage, but many of those problems have been addressed by a re-calibration of the engine computers operating software. Mercedes Benz Canada has also extended the EGR Valve warranty to 10 Years or 194,000 KM’s.
